It’s Fall, Y’all

It’s always a bittersweet weekend, Labor Day. We say goodbye to Summer and all the wonderful memories we created. The Summer is now a memory full of stories to tell for another time. Sharing photos and posting on social media you cannot wait for next Summer.
But wait a minute one of the best seasons is here now, Fall. Think pumpkins! Pumpkin lattes, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pancakes. Think apples! Apple pie, apple cider doughnuts, apple picking weekends! The weather is getting cooler. No more sweating when you are running around town or wanting to dine outside. Sweater weather. Yay!
In Aryuvedic Medicine it is common to do a detox with every changing season. If that is something you would like to do there are many to choose from. You can go hard core and do a juice cleanse 3-5 days. You can juice until dinner and then have a protein and vegetable for dinner. You can just eat clean for 5 days. This consists of proteins, vegetables, and fruit. No refined sugar or refined carbohydrates. You can do a bone broth cleanse. Drinking bone broth only for 1-3 days. Make sure with any cleanse you are hydrating with plenty of water. There are also cleanses that you can purchase that have everything you need in one box. I have done the Prolon cleanse. I really liked it and have done it many times during a change of season. It is a nice way to reset your system to prepare for the new season and to get ready for all that Fall has to offer culinary wise. A detox not only resets your system it also can help with mental clarity.

Changing of the Seasons

This can be a wonderful time for reflection. The end of one thing and the beginning of another. How was the last season? What were the highlights? Think about all the things you did over the Summer. How did you feel? Who did you socialize with? How did you feel when you spent time with these people? How did you behave? Were you the friend you wanted to be? Were you the employee or boss you wanted to be? Take all of these questions and reflect upon them. Make a list of all the positive experiences. Times when you felt great about your behavior. What people did you feel wonderful around? What experiences made you feel great? Remember these things and do more of them and be around those people more. Explore why these experiences were so positive. Where were you when you felt great about your behavior? What were you doing? Why did the people you were with make you feel so wonderful? This is where you want to keep going. This is who you want to hang around with more. Thank you, Universe, more please!
Now make a list of all the negative experiences or not so positive experiences. Times when you didn’t feel great about your behavior. Times when you were not the employee or boss you wanted to be. Times that you were around people you did not feel so wonderful around. Who were you socializing with? Why did these people make you feel not good to be around? Where were you when you didn’t feel great about your behavior? What were you doing? Take time to explore why these experiences were negative. These are experiences that you want to stay away from and people you want to spend less time with (if you cannot avoid these people for reasons such as you work with them, then begin to think of how you can create better boundaries with them, so you are not dwelling in the negative experiences).
By making these lists you are going to be able to find out much more about yourself. The better you know yourself the easier it is to navigate your life, so you are happier. You are a better human for yourself and those around you. You are going to realize that when you are around certain people, places, and things you are happier, and the energy is more positive. These feelings are going to feel so good that you are going to want more of them. On the other hand, you are going to wonder how you could have stayed around certain people, places, and things so long once you realize how toxic the environment was, how bad you really felt and how negative the energy really was. This is going to be your best Fall detox yet!!

Pumpkin Smoothie

Enjoy this feel-good pumpkin smoothie that will have you glowing in no time. You will be glowing on the inside and out. Between this smoothie and your new reflection detox you are going to be unstoppable!

  • ½ cup organic pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup nutmilk of your choice or oatmilk
  • ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla (Madagascar or Mexican vanilla are the best) 
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

Blend ingredients in blender until smooth
Top with coco whip and enjoy!
